Venture Philanthropy Partners (VPP) has explored a number of philanthropic investment opportunities in the K-12 education area, as part of our broader education, learning, and child development focus. As a result of this anecdotal research and analysis, we have prepared "Charter Schools Brief for VPP Investors, Board, and Advisors" to inform thinking on the current status of charter schools in the District of Columbia and to find and assess investment opportunities by VPP, VPP's investors, and others with similar mission.
VPP is not aligned to any single educational model and is supportive of public and private efforts to improve education for all children in the National Capital Region. In the District of Columbia, unlike the areas of Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland adjacent to DC, charter schools offer one option for educational improvement and are a valid area for investment by VPP.
